Gone to the Dogs:
6 Dog-Friendly Beach Resorts to Bring Your Best Friend
We’ve all had it before: That guilty feeling you get when you have to leave your dog behind to go on a beach vacation.
We can’t stand the look on your pup’s face when you walk out the door either, so that’s why we are highlighting some of our top dog-friendly beach resorts in Florida and the Carolinas.
When you bring your pet to one of our resorts, you can rest assured that we will do whatever we can to make your pet’s stay memorable. This includes offering several special amenities for both you and your pet to enjoy while staying with us!
1. The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa
You and your dog will “dig” walks on the beach at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa! Take your furry friend on the beach for a morning run before 10 a.m. or for an evening stroll after 5 p.m. In the middle of the day, we recommend taking your pooch to the designated dog-walking area on the northeast corner of the resort adjacent to the beach.
At this resort, the Heavenly Bed isn’t just for humans anymore: The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa has extended the Heavenly experience to guests’ loyal companions because they deserve just as much comfort. Uniquely designed with trim piping and featuring Westin’s signature logo, we know your pet will love lounging on their soft and plush bed just as much as you enjoy yours. If requested, the resort will also offer food and water bowls with a mat as well as doggie clean-up supplies.
2. The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort and The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village
You may be wondering, “What could possibly be better than bringing my dog to the beach with me?” The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort and The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village have the answer for you: Bringing your four-legged friend to the beach for free! That’s right – these resorts do not charge a pet fee for bringing your dog.
After enjoying the variety of outdoor activities with your dog and the many pet-friendly restaurants in these areas, head back to the room for a quick rest and recharge on your Heavenly Beds. When you are both ready to head back out, obtain a permit and visit the Fort Lauderdale Canine Beach located at Florida A1A and East Sunrise Boulevard. If you’re visiting Cape Coral with your pup, take him to Barkingham Park or the off-leash beach area located at the south end of Lovers Key.
Upon request, these resorts will deliver The Westin Heavenly Dog Bed, a floor mat that has food and water bowls, and a doggie welcome kit that includes waste bags. Also, a special “privacy” sign will be provided to hang on the door that alerts staff that your dog is in the room.
3. The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa
Savannah is an extremely walkable city and nothing could be better than exploring with your furry friend by your side while staying at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa! When it’s time to go for a walk around the resort, we recommend using the designated dog walk area on the northwest side of the Midnight Sun Pavilion. This resort also offers treats upon arrival for your dog to enjoy. Is your pup craving a Milk Bone, or is he longing for something a little more personalized like our Westin bone?
Like the other dog-friendly Westin resorts mentioned here, The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa also offers your pet a Heavenly Bed, a plastic bone filled with clean up baggies, the ‘visiting pet’ door hanger to alert staff of an extra guest in the room, and the accompanying mat with the water and food bowls.
4. W Fort Lauderdale and W South Beach
At the W Fort Lauderdale and the W South Beach, Pets are Welcome™ – always!
When you bring your dog with you on your stay at the W Fort Lauderdale, your pup will be the talk of the town with a limited-edition W Fort Lauderdale bandana. Also available in your pet suite are a plush doggie bed, a Bark Box delivered straight to the room, a Tinkle Turf pad on the suite balcony, all-natural peanut butter and oatmeal snacks, and in-room food and water bowls. Checking in at the W South Beach with your pooch, you’ll be greeted with a pet toy, treat, doggie bags, and a special W pet tag. In your room, your pet will enjoy relaxing on an exclusive W Hotels pet bed, dining out of a food and water bowl with floor mat, and a special treat at turndown.
